RAVEN ART PROJECT (RAP)

‘Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
`'Tis some visitor,' I muttered, `tapping at my chamber door -
Only this, and nothing more...' The Raven from Edgar Allan Poe published 1854

Growing up in a village in the ‘Hunsrück', in the southern part of Germany, ravens fascinated me ever since my early childhood. While gravedigger used to destroy the raven nests in order to keep away the so-called 'death messengers', I decided to protect the young ravens instead. I fed them and helped them to survive.
This might explain the high affinity for the ‘proud' ravens, that inspired me to the ‘Raven Art Project' (RAP), the mono-symbolic allegory of the raven.
For the native Indians in North America the raven was the most important creature. It was considered to be miraculous, the creator, the vermuter, the guardian, the preserver of the culture and being able to metamorphose in whatever figure.
But also in many other cultures does the raven play an important role in the history of creatures, alternating between good and evil.
According to a legendary myth, the raven was created by God as the most beautiful bird on earth. The feathering united all colours of the rainbow. But after Adam and Eve's sin, death spread over the world and the feathering turned black. So when paradise will return sometime to the world, the raven will metamorphose to a beautiful, shiny bird.

In the meantime I created different interpretations, but not only ‘shiny' ones.
